Every matter, captured properly,
from first call to final billing.

Litigation Desk's intake flow is a four-step process that captures the client, the adverse parties, the conflict check, and the engagement letter — in that order, because that's the order required by the rules.

  1. 1

    Guided intake

Four-step flow: client, adverse parties, conflict check, engagement. Each step is gated; nothing is skipped.

  2. 2

    Conflict checking, automatic

Searches every contact, matter, party, judge, and opposing counsel in your history. Surfaces both direct conflicts and tangential ones for your judgment.

  3. 3

    Procedural posture tracking

Plaintiff, Petitioner, Defendant, Respondent, Appellant, or Appellee — visible at a glance on every matter.

  4. 4

    Stage progression

Eight-stage flow from Intake through Trial. Court-aware deadline rules computed from the stage and jurisdiction.

  5. 5

    Party register

Client, adverse parties, opposing counsel, judges, experts. Every relationship typed; every party reachable.

  6. 6

    Matter alerts

Deadline countdowns, billing thresholds, trust-low warnings, and statute-of-limitations watches — all in the alert band at the top of every matter.

Intake · Step 3 of 4 — conflict check with a review-required hit and two informational flags.

Microsoft Word & Outlook · native integration

Drafted in Word. Sent through Outlook.
Filed to the matter automatically.

No new word processor to learn. No web-based editor that subtly breaks your formatting. Every document opens in the Microsoft Word installed on your machine; every email is composed and sent in the Outlook you already use. Litigation Desk captures the work product as it happens.

Microsoft Word

Document drafting & filing

  • Generate from templates — pleadings, demand letters, retainers, engagements. Live matter data merges in automatically.
  • One-click open in your installed Word — edits save back to the matter automatically.
  • Mail-merge from matter data — caption, parties, dates, case numbers populate without retyping.
  • Document tagging — court filing, generated, evidence, correspondence; searchable across the database.
  • PDF generation for client delivery; versioned.

Microsoft Outlook

Email · attached to the matter

  • Send via Outlook — opens with recipients, subject, and matter reference pre-filled. You compose; Outlook sends.
  • Inbound email to matter — drag-and-drop from Outlook to file against the right matter.
  • Threaded view per matter — every conversation indexed against the matter, attachments preserved.
  • Search by matter, party, or content — across every email ever filed.
  • Encrypted at rest — bodies encrypted via Windows DPAPI; local-only.
Matter dashboard with a generated Verified Complaint previewed in the right pane.

Billing · time entries · invoices

From timesheet to invoice
in one click.

Tabular nums on every number. UTBMS codes ready for clients who require them. Invoices that look like an attorney prepared them — because, of course, an attorney did.

  1. 1

    Quick-add time entries

Record from any matter with one keystroke. Narrative, hours, rate, UTBMS task and activity codes captured inline.

  2. 2

    Every fee arrangement

Hourly, flat-fee, contingent, hybrid, or pro-bono. Each matter sets its own; the system computes accordingly.

  3. 3

    UTBMS-coded

Task codes (L120, L240, L450…) and activity codes (A102, A103, A104…) on every entry. Generates LEDES-formatted invoices on request.

  4. 4

    Invoice generation

Select entries; click generate. Output is a print-ready invoice with the bar-required Rule 1.5 attestation footer and your firm's letterhead.

  5. 5

Trust offsets at the moment of billing

If a client has a retainer in trust, the system offers to apply it against the invoice and remit the balance — all recorded as one atomic transaction.

  6. 6

    Send via Outlook with attachment

Click Send; Outlook opens with the invoice PDF pre-attached and the client's billing contact in the To field.

Time entries with UTBMS codes alongside a draft invoice — trust-offset offered at the moment of billing.

Trust accounting · bar-grade IOLTA

Where general practice software fails,
Litigation Desk insists on getting it right.

Three-way reconciliation — bank statement, book balance, and the sum of all client ledgers must agree to the cent. Not eventually. Every time.

  1. 1

    Per-matter trust ledgers

Every deposit, every disbursement, every fee transfer recorded against a specific client. Nothing commingles with operating funds.

  2. 2

    Three-way reconciliation

Bank statement = book balance = Σ client ledgers. The system enforces this on every reconciliation cycle.

  3. 3

    Reconciliation history

Every reconciliation logged with date, period, variance, and the actor who signed it off. Immutable.

  4. 4

    Variance alerts before they're grievances

If a transaction can't be matched, the system surfaces the discrepancy long before the next bank statement closes.

Trust ledger — three-way reconciliation in agreement, seven matters carrying $184,432.18 in IOLTA balances.

Common questions

Questions we hear most.

Where does my data live?

On your machine. Litigation Desk is a native Windows application — no cloud database, no telemetry, no server-side dependency for normal operation. The database is open-standard SQLite. You can back it up, copy it, and query it with any tool that reads SQLite.

Will it work with my existing Microsoft Word and Outlook?

Yes. Documents open in the Word installed on your machine and edits save back to the matter automatically. Outlook is wired the same way — composed and sent locally, with the resulting email indexed against the matter. We use native COM integration; there is no plug-in or add-in to install in Office.

Does the trust accounting meet bar requirements?

Litigation Desk enforces three-way reconciliation: the bank statement, your book balance, and the sum of all per-client ledgers must agree to the cent. Per-matter trust ledgers prevent commingling, every reconciliation is logged immutably with the actor and timestamp, and variance alerts surface discrepancies before the next bank statement closes. This is what every U.S. state bar IOLTA program requires.

What is the pricing?

A one-time fee per attorney, with two years of free updates included. After that, the license remains yours for life — update plans are optional. A 14-day free trial requires no credit card. Talk to us for firm-wide deployments or volume pricing.

Can I migrate from my current practice management system?

Yes. We import matters, contacts, time entries, and trust ledgers from CSV exports of most major systems. Our onboarding team handles the mapping. Contact us to discuss your current setup.

Is there a Mac version?

A macOS build is on the 2026 roadmap. Litigation Desk today is Windows 10 / 11 only.
